Mizzou’s Tierney Earns “A” Cut in Men’s 100y Breaststroke

Columbia, Missouri, November 21, 2014 – The Mizzou Invite’s prelim session concluded with another NCAA “A” cut claimed by the host team.  This morning, Mizzou’s Sam Teirney clocked the fastest men’s 100y breaststroke time of 52.02 to safely clear the “A” cut of 52.29. Tierney‘s time now sits on top of the NCAA rankings, surpassing Richard Funk‘s (Michigan) 53.22 clocked back in October.

The women’s 100y breaststroke race winner came dangerously close to also clearing the “A” cut, as Mizzou’s Abby Duncan touched the wall in 59.12.  Perhaps she has enough left in the tank to take things up a gear to reach the 59.12 “A” mark tonight in finals.

The race with the fewest “B” cuts came from the women’s 200y freestyle event, where only Mizzou’s Anna Patterson cleared the mark with her winning time of 1:37.99, setting her up as the top seed going into tonight’s finals.

The opposite held true on the men’s side of the 200y free, where all but one of the top eight finishers surpassed the “B” cut.  Leading the way is Mizzou’s Michael Chadwick with his time of 1:34.86; not too terribly behind the “A” mark of 1:33.62.  He may be one to watch this evening as well, as the racing resumes with finals beginning at 6pm central.
