Truman State University picked up a developing Nebraska sprinter with Austin Baker signing his NLI to Truman this week. Austin competes for Heartland Aquatics and East High School in Lincoln, Nebraska.
Austin is relative newcomer to club swimming, starting in the spring of his sophomore year. In that time he has made big strides over his top 3 events: 50, 100 & 200 free in both short course and long course. In that same period, Austin has found a knack for the 100 breaststroke, dropping 9+ seconds over the course of a year with plenty of room to grow. Within the 15 months of club swimming, Austin earned a spot in the C final at the 2014 spring and summer Region VIII sectional meet in the 50 free.

Austin will arrive on campus with potential to make an immediate impact on the sprint group. His current best times put him 2nd, 3rd and just outside the top 5 respectively in the 50, 100 and 200 free from Truman’s 2014 campaign. Austin is a high energy, charismatic budding leader that will bring a lot to the table in the team environment as well. Austin’s dedication did not stop at the pool, earning Midwestern Swimming 2nd Team All-Academic Award for the 2013-2014 school year for maintaining a 3.75 or higher GPA and qualifying for Sectionals.
The above is a press release from Heartland Aquatics.
