The swimming documentary “Touch the Wall” premiered last month at the Denver Film Festival, and shortly after, it was first shown in New York prior to the 2014 Golden Goggles Awards. “Touch the Wall” chronicles the stories of two American female swimmers: Kara Lynn Joyce and Missy Franklin. Photographer Melissa Lundie captured photos of the New York premier, including several candid shots of the documentary’s stars, Kara Lynn Joyce and Missy Franklin.
Both Kara Lynn Joyce and Missy Franklin came from the Colorado Stars swim club where they were coached by Todd Schmitz. In the film, Missy is seen as the young break-out star, leaving her first Olympic experience with an impressive four gold medals, one bronze medal, and two world records. Meanwhile, Kara Lynn Joyce is a veteran of the swimming world stage. The 2012 Olympics would be her last, capping off an incredible and long swimming career with four medals.
This documentary follows their unique paths to swimming success at the 2012 London Olympics and the challenges they overcame along the way. The story epitomizes the passion and grit that these two women put into their exceptional swimming careers, and all of the love and support they received along the way. I’m an ancient 88 year old competitive swimmer……looking forward to 90!
The accomplishments of these youngsters never fails to blow me away.
My background is marketing….If one were able to package Missy’s smile
it would be worth millions.
