MEET NOTES: Boise State Looking to Bounce Back Against Wyoming on Saturday

Boise State women’s swimming and diving returns home for competition for the first time in over three months this Saturday (Jan. 24), hosting Mountain West rival Wyoming at the West Family YMCA and Boise Aquatic Center. The event is set to begin at 11:30 a.m.
LAST TIME OUT: Boise State dropped its first dual meet of the season Jan. 8, falling 158-141 at Denver.
Senior diver Erin Kohlbeck was one of the Bronco standouts on the day, sweeping the 1- and 3-meter events and setting the pool record in the latter with a career-best score of 320.85. Sophomores Karli Kriewall (280.43) and Jordan Marthens (249.00) rounded out a Boise State top-3 sweep on 3-meter, while Marthens also took fourth on 1-meter (239.03).
On the swimming side of things Boise State captured just five of the 14 events on the program, however. Sophomore Felicity Cann (200 free), senior Jessica Bottelberghe (200 fly), sophomore Brittany Aoyama (50 free) and junior Sam Wicks (200 IM) picked up individual wins while the quartet of Aoyama, Katelyn Martin, Bottelberghe and Wicks was victorious in the finale, the 200 free relay.
SENIOR DAY: Saturday’s meet will also be Senior Day for Boise State as the Broncos honor its seven seniors: Emily Blasko, Jessica Bottelberghe, Nikki Cannon, Heather Harper, Sydney Johansen, Erin Kohlbeck, Megan Myers. The senior class, which has captured two Mountain West title (2012, 2014), will be honored following the opening event of the meet.
BRONCOS AMONG NCAA’S BEST: Boise State boasts top-50 times in multiple events through the first three-plus months of the 2014-15 season. Sophomore Brittany Aoyama is ranked in the top 50 in three individual events (100 fly – ninth, 100 free – T-40th, 200 free – 50th) while junior Sam Wicks ranks in two (100 back – 24th, 200 IM – 36th). Boise State also has four relay teams ranked in their respective top 25s: the 200 medley relay (Wicks, Heather Harper, Aoyama, Katelyn Martin) is 17th, the 400 free relay (Aoyama, Martin, Emma Chard, Wicks) is 20th, the 200 free relay (Aoyama, Jessica Bottelberghe, Martin, Wicks) is 21st and the 400 medley relay (Wicks, Harper, Aoyama, J. Bottelberghe) is 25th.
AMONG MOUNTAIN WEST’S BEST: Through the results of Jan. 20, Boise State features numerous swimmers and divers among the Mountain West’s top performances. Sophomore Brittany Aoyama owns the conference’s top times in the 100 fly and 200 free, is second in the 200 fly and 100 free and third in the 50 free. Junior Sam Wicks paces the MW in the 200 IM, is second in the 100 back and fourth in both the 50 and 100 frees. Freshman Morgan McClure ranks in the MW Top Five in three events: the 400 IM (second), 200 IM (third) and 200 back (fifth).
On the diving side, sophomore Jordan Marthens owns the conference’s second-best score on platform, followed by senior Erin Kohlbeck (third) and freshman Kiley Carlson (fourth).
NEXT UP FOR THE BRONCOS: The Broncos host the final final home meet of the regular season next Saturday (Jan. 31) against Nevada. From there, Boise State will have three weeks to prepare for the Mountain West Championships, set for Feb. 18-21 in San Antonio, Texas.
