Buckeye Men Down Wright State 138-78

The ninth-ranked Ohio State men defeated the Wright State Raiders 138 to 78 Saturday at McCorkle Aquatic Pavillion to capture their eleventh dual meet win of the season.

Ohio State’s A team took first in the 200 Medley Relay (1:29.21) ahead of Wright State’s A team (1:31.25) and the Buckeye C team (1:32.20).

Buckeye teammates Jack Hendricks (1:41.38) and Jack Disalle (1:41.49) finished a tight race for first and second in the 200 Free. Wright State’s Wiehan Boshoff followed just behind for third in 1:41.97 ahead of Ohio State’s Brayden Seal (1:42.68).

Ohio State took a 1-2-3 sweep in the 50 Free, with the charge led by Josh Fleagle (20.27). He touched ahead of teammates Michael Disalle (20.79) and Nathan Christian (20.79). Wright State’s Alex Layne took third in 22.02.

The Buckeyes continued their event winning streak with a 1-2 finish in the 400 IM by Ching Lim (3:52.58) and Matt Moen (3:53.68). Touching third was Wright State Raider Mitchell Stover in 3:56.57.

Wright State responded with a 1-2 sweep in the 100 Fly by teammates Matthew Dassow (50.10) and Merritt Sparks (50.86). Buckeye Peter Lyon followed up for third just nine one-hundredths of a second behind in 50.95.

Ohio State swept first through fourth in the 100 Free, with the charge led by freshman Kevin Musterait (44.88). His teammates Steffen Hillmer (45.42), Andrew Appleby (46.06) and Jack Hendricks (46.74) took second through fourth, respectively.

The Buckeyes continued their domination with another 1-2-3-4 sweep in the 100 Back. Ohio State’s Matt McHugh touched first in 49.45 ahead of teammates Thomas Trace (49.88), Connor McDonald (51.35) and Rowan Williams (51.94).

Ohio State junior Jovan Mitrovic took the 500 Free (4:36.10) twenty seconds ahead of the rest of the field. Wright State teammates Austin McDonnell (4:56.30) and Chace Conley (5:10.54) followed up for second and third, respectively.

Wright State brought back the momentum with a 1-2-3-4 finish in the 100 Breast led by Kile Aukerman (56.07). His teammates Clement Quilliec (56.37), Ryan Schultz (59.19) and Jeffrey Ross (1:02.43) took second through fourth.

The Wright State A (1:25.60), B (1:30.33) and C (1:32.74) teams swam to the top three spots in the 200 Free Relay.

In the diving portion of the competition, Ohio State took commanding sweeps of both the 1-meter and 3-meter events. Buckeye Stephen Ettienne claimed victory in the 1-meter (392.33), while his teammate Shane Miszkiel scored first in the 3-meter (397.65).

it is amazing that some schools like OSU and PItt schedule some really weak opponents. Guess they have to get their wins for their ADs. Not sure they are helping their athletes. Sometimes OSU hasn’t even scheduled Michigan! Pitt is in the ACC but only swim the bottom of the league….an exception is UVA sometimes.

not sure if it is required for all collegiate sports but there is legislation in Ohio that requires their football team to play at least one other state university every year. Maybe the same for all sports in Ohio?

OSU already competed against Michigan this season. Unfortunately, they lost.

But, they defeated Louisville, Indiana, and Wisconsin (OSU Invitational).

With this win they should be able to overtake Harvard now for that No. 4 ranking spot. Oh what the heck CSCAA, just rub your magic lamp and put OSU at No. 1.

Nobody thought they’d end up No. 1 in football either.
