Alexis Wenger of the Grosse Point Gators has broken her own National Age Group Record in the 100 yard breaststroke swimming on Sunday at the 2015 Michigan Open hosted by OLY outside of Detroit.
Wenger swam a 1:00.75 to place 2nd in the open-age race, finishing behind 17-year old Indiana commit Miranda Tucker of the Livonia Community Swim Club, who also was a lifetime best of 59.83 (her first time under a minute, and among the top-20 fastest times ever by a 17-18).
Wenger’s old record was a 1:00.98 that was done in March of 2014 when she was just 13 years old. Since then, she’s been stuck on 1:01’s and 1:02’s before breaking through again here.
The last time Wenger broke the record was done at NCSA’s, and she will be in this age group until late June with the chance to break more records.

- Wenger ’13: 28.30 + 32.68 = 1:00.98
- Wenger ’14: 28.70 + 32.05 = 1:00.75
Wenger’s new record swim was very different than her old record swim – she held back on the first 50, but came through big coming home to get under her own mark.
