Wallace, Lehane, Dressel All Scratch 200 IM on Day 2 of 2015 SEC Championships

After a night one full of impressive relay splits at the James E. Martin Aquatics Center we look forward towards day 2’s events and scratches from major point scorers such as Florida’s Dan Wallace, Hali Flickinger from Georgia, as well as Tennessee’s very own Sean Lehane.

Pre-Session Scratches

Men’s 500 Free- Florida’s  Justin Kasirlik’s absence from the heat sheets is the only notable scratch from the 500’s.  Look for the University of Florida to attempt to make their way back to the top of the standings with Dan Wallace, Mitch D’Arrigo, Carlos Omana, Austin Manganiello, and Arthur Frayler headlining the deep distance group of Gainesville.

Women’s 500 Free-Looks as though after her impressive anchor leg last night, Georgia’s 5th ranked Hali Flickinger, will be given the morning off with scratches in the 500 Free as well as the 200 IM.  Missouri’s Sharli Brady has also been scratched from the 500 free. The Georgia women still look to be in good hands with Amber McDermott, Brittany MacLean, and Jordan Mattern leading the charge for the Lady Bulldogs.

Men’s 200IM- scratches begin to pick up as Florida: Dan Wallace, Matt Elliot, and Caeleb Dressel; Auburn: Michael Duderstadt; Georgia: Jay and Mick Litherland; Tennessee: Sean Lehane all have been removed from today’s heat sheet.  Great opportunity for Georgia men to begin separating themselves from the pack with Chase Kalisz, Tynan Stewart, and Gunnar Bentz coming into today seeded 1st, 2nd, and 3rd respectively. Wallace’s focus will be on the 500 free.

Women’s 200IM- Georgia’s Flickinger, Nicole Vernon as well as Tennessee’s Molly Hannis and Anna Demonte will not be competing in the women’s individual medley. Texas A&M’s Bethany Galat and Sycerika McMahon highlight the young IM group from College Station looking to fill the A final with as many Aggies as possible.

Men’s 50 Free- Florida’s Corey Main, Enzo Martinez Scarpe, Pawel Werner, Christian Homer as well as  Auburn’s Authur Mendes and Jacob Molacek have all been scratched from the splash and dash this morning in Auburn. Those in attendance or viewing via live stream will be in for a treat as Walsh v Margritier/ Dressel v Darmody/ Gkolomeev v Trice headline the circle seeded heats ending the morning session on the men’s side.

Women’s 50 Free- Florida’s Sinead Russell and Texas A&M’s Kristin Malone finish off the mornings scratches for the session. Russell’s scratch isn’t a big surprise, given the very serious health issues she’s had this semester, but her presence on the pre-meet psych sheets left some question of a miraculous recovery. The women’s 50 free also contains some interesting morning races as Hinds-Smoliga II, Johnson v Purcell, and Locus v Bosma v Van Landeghem look ready to make a statement leading up to NCAA’s.
