Louisville’s Kelsi Worrell, who knows nothing but speed all-day, every day, put in a good warning shot for her individual 100 fly later in the day.
Worrell split a 22.07 on Louisville’s 200 yard medley relay (almost faster than her freestyle anchor’s 22.00) on a .14 reaction time.
Worrell already had the previous fastest-known split of 22.34 from the ACC Championships, and blew that time away at this meet. The second best is Texas A&M freshman Beryl Gastaldello, who was a 22.4 at the SEC Championships, Gastaldello split 22.82.
This year has been a turning point for women’s butterflying. At last year’s meet, only three teams had legal sub-23 second splits at NCAA’s in prelims of the women’s 200 medley relay. This year, 10 did it legally (though one of those 10 relays was DQ’ed on a different exchange).
Stewart from USC was 22.5.
Sam Corea was the second fastest split from Denver at 22.71

Her day 1 was a little overlooked but she showed an amazing shape. Never been under 22 before in the 50 free and boom, 21.62 in final!
She looks at the top of her game at the right time.
A sub 50 in the 100 fly has never been so close.
