NC State slipped through prelims after appealing their disqualification and having the cal overturned. Freshman Ryan Held was called for an early take-off this morning with a -.03 reaction time. Tonight, Held was safe, but senior David Williams jumped on the anchor leg. His reaction time was not published in the results, but his first 25 split of 8.29 seemed a little too good to be true.
If their relay had been legal, that relay would have been NC State’s first ever NCAA relay title. They finished with a final time of 1:15.16. They also would have been the first non-powerhouse school to win a relay at the NCAA championships since Northwestern in 2007.
This is not the first time NC State has run into trouble with their exchanges. They had multiple relays disqualified last year at the NCAA Championships as well.
With the disqualification in the A final tonight, NC State loses all of their points for the event and Texas is bumped into first place with their time of 1:15.86.
Heartbreaking – such an amazing group of sprinters and coaches at NCSU. Hoping they pull it back together for the 400 Free Relay tonight!
So if NC State “cheats” and gets dq’d they are cheaters? How about the fact that the relay manhandled that final heat by 0.7 seconds and the -0.01 was immaterial and wouldn’t have impacted the outcome. The Pack has built a great sprint program regardless of false starts. Can’t wait for the 400 FR relay!
But really. These are classless comments. I don’t think you would comment unless for some reason NCST bothered you. I’m guessing these are comments posted by someone who has lost to NCST recently. Calling these kids cheaters is just silly. (Yep, ever DQ every committed is cheating, all those 6&understand in summer league with the DQ, cheaters….) Hmmm…false start not cheating…it’s a mistake.
Can somebody explain to me why NC State DQ’d with -0.01? I thought there was a cushion of -0.01 to -0.03? Also, why was NC State DQ’d w/ -0.01 but L’ville w/ -0.48 and OSU w/ -0.12 were not DQ’d? I must be misunderstanding something and I’m sure someone out there can explain it…
I don’t think they’re relying on those for DQ’s. Something was messed up w/ them this morning, which was why NC State got reinstated.

They messed up in the final and lost – as they deserved to do for not executing properly – but to call them cheaters for DQing takes exaggeration to the point of being dishonest.
