Bromer Records World’s Fastest 200 Butterfly at the Danish Open

European 200 butterfly champion Viktor Bromer‘s performance highlighted the first day of competition at the Danish Open in Bellahøj.

Bromer won the men’s 200 butterfly in a time of 1:55.67, but his most impressive swim of the day came in the prelims where he recorded a 1:55.39. His time beats Japanese swimmer Daiya Seto‘s time of 1:55.61 which he put up at the BHP Billiton Super Series in January.

It was also just off Bromer’s Danish record of 1:55.29 which he recorded last summer in Berlin. He came into the 2014 season with a lifetime best of 1:57.67 and is once again on track to make significant improvements considering that he won this event at the 2014 Danish Open in a time of 1:58.54.

Jan Switkowski of Poland finished second placing him eighth in the world rankings.

Jeanette Ottesen took the women’s 50 freestyle in a time of 24.66 placing her second in the world rankings with only Cate and Bronte Campbell having swum faster this year.

Pernille Blume finished second in a time of 25.15 which is just one one-hundredth of a second off of her season’s best of 25.15 which currently sits 14th in the world rankings.

Julie Levisen finished third in a time of 25.69.

Mie Nielsen won the women’s 100 backstroke with ease hitting the wall in a time of 59.57. Nielsen was 43 one-hundredths of a second of her season’s best of 59.14 which is second in the world rankings.

Ida Linborg finished second in a time of 1:01.15 followed by Simona Baumrtova of the Czech Republic who finished third in a time of 1:01.30.

Pal Joesen of the Faroe Islands recorded the world’s second fastest 800 freestyle winning the event in a time of 7:52.82. He was followed by Mads Glaesner who posted a 7:58..88. Wojciech Wojdak of Poland finished third in a time of 8:02.87.

Fanny Lecluyse of Belgium won the women’s 50 breaststroke in a time of 31.17 which places her fifth in the world rankings. Lecluyse also broke her own national record which she set in the prelims where she posted a 31.25.

Jenna Laukkanen finished second in a time of 31.23 which puts her tied with Sophie Taylor for sixth in the world rankings.

Russian Andrey Govorov took the men’s 50 freestyle in a time of 22.25. Govorov’s time ties him with Ben Proud for eighth in the world rankings.

Barbora Zavadova of the Czech Republic took the women’s in a time of 2:13.74 which was not far off of her national record time of 2:13.10 which she posted at the European Championships last summer.

Julie Aglund Lauridsen won the women’s 800 freestyle in a time of 8:48.91 followed by Martina Elhenicka of the Czech Republic who finished in a time of 8:52.86.

Lavrans Solli took the men’s 100 backstroke in a time of 55.71 while Christian Rasmussen won the men’s 50 breaststroke in a time of 28.70.
