Both Alex Meyer and Stephanie Peacock won their respective races at the 2015 Crippen Cup 10K held in Miromar Lakes, Florida.
Meyer, swimming for Tennessee Aquatics, finished the race in 1:33:20.90 in a tough battle between both Sean Ryan and Charles Peterson. Sean Ryan, swimming out of Club Wolverine, was right with Meyer at the end but ultimately was second.
Ryan was a 1:33:24.77 at the touch to finish just about four second behind Meyer. Peterson, representing the North Carolina Aquatic Club, was right in the mix clocking in at 1:33.27.46 to make the top three.
Meyer, Ryan, and Peterson were well ahead of the rest of the field. Their closest competitor was 16-year-old Taylor Abbott swimming out of Nitro Swimming. Abbott was a 1:34:15.96 to lead the second group and grab a fourth place finish with an impressive showing.
The women’s race finished in a similar fashion as Stephanie Peacock of Swim florida led the front pack with a 1:43:23.64. She was able to separate herself by a solid amount however, beating second place finisher Tristan Baxter by around seven seconds.
Baxter was a 1:43:30.80 at the touch. She was in a tight battle with Japan’s Yumi Kada who ended up grabbing the bronze medal less than three seconds behind her. Kada was a 1:43:32.49.

I checked the results and saw that the men’s women time was a 1:33:20.9, which works out to 56 seconds per 100 meters, or 14 minutes for a 1500, which makes Sun Yang look like a slowpoke.
The Women’s winning time was 1:43:23 which works out to 15:30 for a 1500 free, just a smidge over Katie Ledecky’s world record pace.
So, what does this imply?
a) these people are superstars next to Sun Yang and Katie Ledecky.
b) there’s a current in the lake?
c) Drafting is a super-efficient way to swim.
Or, of course, they mismeasured the swim course …
There are no currents in small Florida lakes. Lake Okeechobee maybe. but not the Miromar lake.
