I have it on good authority that when USC won a relay in the 80s they were heard saying-

“Gosh jee willakers, we sure did do a great job fellas!”
“Goooooolllyyyyyyy”
“Yippee skippeeee- way to go, gents!”
“How about that? Wowsers, that’s fun!”

Duhh

They can be excited and don’t have to say that word…and yes people do still get disqualified for that crap

I guess I didn’t realize how freaking common the freaking word has become in freaking society and how freaking acceptable it is has become in ordinary freaking language. In freaking retrospect if I had just freaking won against freaking NC State I would go freaking crazy. Wining a relay is no freaking easy task.

SWIMFAN,
you must be new down here(on Earth) or you never watched a competitive soccer game…

Microphones shouldn’t be on the field or pool at live high tension events.

This happens when athletes are trapped in a glass case of emotion.

Did anyone else catch all the F bombs at the end of the 400 relay? There was a day when slamming your goggles and cap and profanity was an automatic DQ for unsportsmanlike behavior. Had swimming fallen to this level

Garth, if I were to give you some money out of my wallet, would that ease the pain?

Because you wouldn’t be doing the same thing if you won… every team does it out of excitement . I have heard many U.S olympic relays yell worse

Swimfan – I think you maybe have an idealized view of how the sport “used to be,” largely because it was never covered, so nobody ever heard about it.

I can say that even with the issues of today’s athletes, they’re nothing compared to the things that happened 20 or 30 years ago.

My two cents
