Mackenzie Stein
Mackenzie Stein is a senior butterfly and IM swimmer at Stanford University. Born Aug. 25, 1993, Stein is in her senior year, and she’s majoring in Public Policy. Originally from Lakewood, Colo., Stein graduated from Green Mountain High School, where she was apart of the University of Denver Swim Club. In the 2013-2014 season she broke into Stanford’s top 10 fastest swims in history in the 200 butterfly – she currently sits ninth all time. Stein comes from a long line of Stanford alumni including her mother, Jenny, was a Stanford swimmer and her Aunt Susan Rapp is in the Stanford Hall of Fame and three-time Olympian. Her versatility is shown in her conference lineup – she’s swam a handful of events at the Pac-12 meet including: 200 butterfly, 100 butterfly, 200 freestyle, 500 freestyle, 400 IM, and 1,650 freestyle.

2011-2012
As a freshman Stein’s highest finish was in the 1,000 freestyle, finishing second at both the dual with Arizona and the dual with Pacific. She competed at the Pac-12 Championships, where was the top Stanford swimmer in the 1,650 finishing fourth, and she also placed 10th in the 500 freestyle.
2012-2013
Stein swam the 200, 500 and 1,650 freestyle races at her sophomore Pac-12 meet. She swam career best times, and she placed 24th in both the 200 and 500 as well as 14th in the mile.
2013-2014
As a junior she swam four best times at the Pac-12 Championships. Stein finished fifth in the 200 butterfly and 10th in the 100 butterfly, and she qualified for the NCAA Championships for the first time as an individual. At the NCAA meet she came in 28th in the 100 butterfly, 23rd in the 200 butterfly and 50th in the 500 freestyle.
2014-2015
Stein is currently in her senior year as a Stanford Cardinal. She competed at the Pac-12 Championships where she finished ninth in the 500 freestyle, 16th in the 100 butterfly and 12th in the 200 butterfly.
National Competition
As a high school student at Green Mountain High, Stein earned all-state honors in the 200 IM and the 100 butterfly. She holds the school record in both events.
