We reported yesterday on 19-year-old Air Force cadet and longtime swimmer Hailey Lane, who suffered a heart attack while working out over her spring break.
This morning, the Richmond Times-Dispatch is reporting that Lane had a successful operation yesterday, and is now surviving without the aid of a life support machine.
At the beginning of this week, Lane was attached to a machine that pumped her heart and breathed for her, and had not fully regained consciousness. But today, Lane’s heart is working well enough to beat on its own, though the Dispatch-Times reports that the right side of heart is still lagging.
According to Lane’s twin sister Savannah, Hailey also opened her eyes and smiled yesterday, two major steps in a recovery process that still has a long way to go.
