Matt McNamara
Matt McNamara, born Apr. 26, 1994 to Larry and Donna McNamara, is a swimmer at the University of Michigan. McNamara is a Michigan-native, originally from the city of Huntington Woods. He graduated from University of Detroit Jesuit High School, and he also competed for the Oakland Live Y’ers, where he was a Michigan state record holder. A breaststroke specialist, McNamara was one of the first recruits to commit to Michigan in the class of 2012. Coming in to Michigan, McNamara focused more on the 100, but has made some massive drops in the 200 breaststroke. The Engineering student made his collegiate debut against Wisconsin on Sept. 29. 2012.

2012-2013
As a freshman McNamara competed at the Big Ten Championships – he finished 20th in the 200 breaststroke, 24th in the 100 and 40th in the 200 IM. He also swam three events at the Purdue Invitational.
2013-2014
Although McNamara didn’t qualify for the NCAA Championships, he finished in the top eight of both the 100 and 200 breaststroke at the Big Ten Championships. McNamara also finished 25th in the 200 IM. He competed at the AT&T Winter Nationals, where he finished 13th in the 100 and 14th in the 200.
2014-2015
McNamara is currently in his junior year as a Michigan Wolverine. At the Big Ten Championships, he finished 23rd in the 200 breaststroke, 25th in the 100 breaststroke and 45th in the 200 IM.
National Competition
McNamara is the Michigan state record holder in both the 100 and 200 breaststroke. From 2010 to 2012, he competed at the USA Nationals. Back in high school, he was a finalist at the Junior National Championships in multiple events including: 100 breaststroke, 200 breaststroke, 200 backstroke, 200 IM and 400 IM.
