Not quite a month after breaking the world record in the women’s 400m freestyle S8, Jessica Long was at it again, this time in the 800m free. Swimming at the 2015 Internationale Deutsche Meisterschaften (IDM) in Berlin, Long absolutely destroyed her previous world record in the S8 class, a 10:17.50 she had set in Montreal in 2007. On Thursday, the opening day in Berlin, Long swam to a 9:45.08, taking more than 32 seconds off her previous best. Long also set the American and Pan Am records with her swim.
In the same event, Chloe Davies from Great Britain set the world record for the S14 class with 9:39.98. Davies, too, lowered the former record, 10:12.67, set by Xenia Francesca Palazzo of Italy in 2014, by 32 seconds. Sean Russo of Australia broke the world record in men’s 400 IM SM13, going 4:54.71. The previous mark of 5:05.17 had stood since 1990.
