Madeline Edwards
Madeline Edwards, better known as Maddie, is a backstroke and IM specialist at Texas A&M. Originally from Austin, Texas Edwards graduated from Westlake High School as a three-time All-American honoree. With intentions to study Bio-Medical Science Edwards was born March 30, 1995 in El Paso, and she has been swimming competitively since she was 8 years old. While living in Austin Edwards trained with Nitro Swimming for two years. She was a 2012 U.S. Olympic Trials qualifier in the 200m backstroke, where she nearly moved up 100 places in her preliminary swim. According to collegeswimming.com Edwards was the no. four recruit out of the Lone Star State. Although born and raised in Texas, Edwards is a beach-girl at heart, even claiming that her favorite city to visit is anywhere with a beach and has warm sand. She claims that she chose A&M because she could achieve her athletic and academic goals.
Texas A&M
2013-2014
As a freshman Edwards scored points at her first SEC Championships. She finished 15th in the 200 backstroke, came in as first alternate in both the 100 backstroke and the 200 IM. Her 200 backstroke was the fourth-fastest time on the team.
2014-2015
Edwards is currently in her sophomore season as an Aggie. She did compete at the conference championships.
National Competition
Edwards was a three-time high school All-American honoree, and a Texas state champion as a member of the winning 400 freestyle relay. She qualified for the 2012 U.S. Olympic Trials, finishing 53rd in the 200m backstroke after entering the meet listed 150th overall. She is a Nitro club record holder in the 100m backstroke and the 200m backstroke.
