2015 Euro Games Host Azerbaijan Opens Aquatic Palace With Presidential Ribbon-Cutting

With the 2015 Euro Games set to begin in the not-too-far-off month of June, today the President and First Lady of host country Azerbaijan officially opened the Aquatic Palace in Baku. President Ilham Aliyev approved construction of the venue back in 2013, and was there today when the 72,000 square meter project’s ribbon was cut.

While inspecting preparations, the pair toured the facility, which covers approximately 72,000 square meters and contains three swimming pools, at which the swimming, diving and synchronized swimming competitions will be held June 12-28th.

June’s competition represents the first edition of this multi-sport event, and will replace the European Junior Championships.  Azerbaijan and Baku see the newly-constructed venue as an investment in the sport’s future, serving as a potential attractive spot for future international competitions.
