Danish Squad Benefiting From Altitude Training Camp

A group of seven Danish swimmers have been training at high altitude in Sierra Nevada since April 18th.

The group of National Training Centre athletes include:

• Sarah Bridge
• Rikke Møller Pedersen
• Pernille Blume
• Emilie Beckmann
• Pal Joensen (Faroe Islands)
• Daniel Skaaning
• Magnus Westermann

The athletes have a little under a week left in their camp and National Training Centre Head Coach Stefan Hansen is happy with what he has seen thus far commenting to the Danish Swimming Federation that the camp is running very smoothly because of the experience that many of the swimmers have with training at a higher altitude.

Sierra Nevada is 3,478 meters above sea level.

Hansen pointed out the benefits of training at altitude, “Altitude training is an opportunity to workout with a little extra stress on the body,” explains Hansen.

“One of the objectives to be up here at this time of year is to get the future training and competition block setup well.Swimmers who have previously been on altitude training camps have good experience of being at this height, and come home well prepared for the upcoming training block.”

The schedule of the group has been to train twice a day. On Wednesdays the group only trains once in the morning and then will hike in the afternoon. They have also been able to take some leisure time on Saturdays in Granada.
