KMSC athlete to blog about experience at USA Swimming National Diversity Select Camp

The following is a press release courtesy of the King Marlin Swim Club. Kade will be blogging from the National Diversity Select Camp:

Edmond swimmer Kade Knoch, 14, of the King Marlin Swim Club was named to USA Swimming’s 2015 National Diversity Select Camp to be held May 7-10 at the U.S. Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colo.

Knoch was one of 48 swimmers from around the country selected for the highly competitive camp, which aims to inspire athletes from ethnically underrepresented and economically deprived populations to become leaders in swimming. To apply, swimmers must be between the ages 14 and 16 and have achieved a certain time at a USA Swimming sanctioned event.

While at the camp, Knoch will blog about his experiences each day at kingmarlin.com. His blog posts will also be available on USA Swimming’s Website, usaswimming.org.

“I find it a great honor to be selected to go to this camp and would love to further my career as a swimmer,” said Knoch, who currently holds 11 Oklahoma swimming records and has two appearances on USA Swimming’s All-Time Top 100 Swims list.

“One of the ways to do this is by going to these camps. I owe all my success to God and to my coaches and would like to thank USA Swimming for inviting me to the camp,” Knoch said.

The three-day camp includes pool training, motivational and educational sessions, and team-building activities.

“This camp is an exciting opportunity for Kade,” said KMSC Co-Head Coach Kathy Mendez, who also serves as chair of Oklahoma Swimming’s Diversity and Inclusion Committee and a member of USA Swimming’s Diversity and Inclusion Committee.

“This year’s roster is the fastest in camp history, and Kade will have the opportunity to expand his existing leadership abilities to bring more multicultural and economically deprived youth to the sport of swimming,” Mendez said.
