Rose Bowl Aquatics has released its May 2015 installment of its video news series, “News from the Deck.”
You can check out the video above, courtesy of Rose Bowl Aquatics Swim Team on YouTube. Head coach Jeff Julian covers the team’s record-breaking youngster Ronald Dalmacio along with the upcoming CIF schedule for California’s high school swimmers.
We reported on Dalmacio’s NAG record-breaking tear earlier this year. Per SwimSwam’s Braden Keith:
Ronald Dalmacio of Rose Bowl Aquatics in Pasadena, California, has swum a 1:08.13 in the 100 long course meters backstroke to break the hours-old record set a day earlier on the other side of the country.
While neither will have an opportunity to be officially ratified until the USA Swimming offices re-open on Monday, unofficially Dalmacio’s swim broke the 10 & under National Age Group Record of 1:09.07 that Joshua Zuchowski did in Daytona Beach, Florida on Saturday.
Officially, the record coming into the weekend was a 1:09.89 that Destin Lasco did in 2012.
That swim is Dalmacio’s first of the 2015 long course season, and beat his previous best of 1:13.07. The improvement was inevitable, though, after Dalmacio broke the National Age Group Record in the 100 yard backstroke at least three times during the short course season (59.76, 59.05, and a 58.62 last weekend).
Though no results are available from Zuchowski’s meet, his coach John Kjaerulff tells us that he swam a 1:08.66 in a time trial on Sunday to get under the 1:09 barrier as well.
The two are developing a bit of a cross-continent rivalry akin to the one between Lasco and his fellow New Jerseyan Vinny Marciano, who have been trading records for the last four years but rarely raced despite living in the same state (they were in different LSC’s).
Congratulations Rose Bowl! You are running a fantastic program!
