Pinecrest, Florida’s Ricky Hermida has committed to Saint Michael’s College in Vermont for the 2015-16 season. Hermida swims for Gulliver Preparatory School and Gulliver Raiders Swim Club in Miami.
Hermida is primarly a breaststroker and sprint freestyler. At the 2014-15 Florida High School Class 2A Championship, he swam breast on Gulliver’s medley relay, led off their 200 free relay, and competed in the 50 free individually. Hermida’s top times over the last two seasons are:
Event | SCY | LCM |
50 free | 22.64 | 25.79 |
100 free | 51.50 | 58.07 |
50 breast | 30.30 | 33.97 |
100 breast | 1:04.43 | 1:14.73 |
200 breast | 2:19.38 | 2:42.64 |
The Purple Knights have been fielding stronger and stronger teams over the last several years; 13 of the men’s team’s 18 individual records have been set in the last two seasons. Hermida should be in a position to make an immediate impact on the Saint Michael’s roster, contributing points both in individual events and on relays. Both his breaststrokes would have made consolation finals at the 2015 Northeast 10 Championships, while his sprint free times would have been just on the bubble.
