Bergen Swim Festival; Will Hosszu Erase Egerszegi From the Record Books?

The Bergen Swim Festival will kick off tomorrow in Bergen, Norway. The competition will see a number of strong international competitors including Hungarian Katinka Hosszu who will be looking to erase Krisztina Egerszegi from the Hungarian record books.

Hosszu, who already holds long course national records in the 50, 100, 200 and 400 freestyle, 50 and 100 backstroke, 200 butterfly and the 200 and 400 IM, will look to break the legendary Egerszegi’s 200 backstroke mark. Egerszegi posted a 206.62 at the 1991 European Championships, last weekend in Nancy Hosszu put up a 2:06.81.

Hosszu’s time currently ranks second in the world to Emily Seebhom who recorded a 2:06.69 earlier this year.

Amazing race! Especially considering her chin is tucked in her chest. Do any elite swimmers still maintain this head and body position?

Hang on . A 2 .06 is an A level time – one that has been achieved by very few & even fewer outside of major comps . Ms Franklin has not made it for 22 months.

My list off my instant recall is Franklin , Biesel , Russian girl ( all 2012 Olympics ) Hocking , Japanese girl , Kristyna , Hoelzer , Seebohm . Simmonds . 6 of these are specialist backers & only top 400 imer Biesel In a lifetime highlight managed it .

Now there is expectation Katinka can do it twice in a bit over a week with travel , weights , metres in the pool in between . Most swimmers would still… Read more »

Well, let those nine-ten girls swim that level in their normal swimming suits, then it will be “Chapeau”!

Only if she (or anybody else) surpasses Egerszegi’s time in a “normal” swimming suit that Egerszegi was using. It is crazy that polyurethane suit world records were not erased and that swimmers still use tight swimming suits that reach to the knees. Let them go back to normal swimming suits they use for warming up and for training, the swimming federation could take an example from waterpolo players!
