Alice Mizzau
Alice Mizzau is an Olympic swimmer from Italy – she was a member of the first Italian relay team to win an international gold medal. Born March 18, 1993 Mizzau specializes in the freestyle events.Mizzau is often compared to Italian sensation and World Record Holder, Frederica Pellegrini. She once focused on freestyle events down to the 100m race, but she’s found new life in the 200m and 400m distances, which have really defined her among the world’s best swimmers.
Early Career
Mizzau opened her elite swimming career in 2009, when she represented Italy at the European Junior Championships. She was a relay leg on the 400m freestyle relay that won a silver medal. Between 2009 and 2011, Mizzau developed as an elite athlete and especially showed growth at the Italian Championships, when she won numerous medals between 2011 and 2012.
2012 London Olympics
At just 18 years old Mizzau qualified for her first Olympic Games in 2012 as a relay-only swimmer. She competed on the 800m freestyle relay as well as the 400m freestyle relay that broke the Italian record. Mizzau is one of Italy’s best in the mid-distance freestyle races, and she will have a lot to do with the success of the 800m freestyle relay in Rio.
International relay success
At the 2013 World Championships in Barcelona, the same relay from the 2012 London Olympics, which included Pellegrini, broke their own Italian Record by under half-a-second. In 2014 Mizzau competed at both the European Championships and the World Short Course Championships. At Europeans in Berlin, Mizzau won her first international gold medal as a member of Italy’s 800m freestyle relay and the 400m relay squad won bronze.

In 2015 she’s one of the world’s top-10 fastest swimmers in the 400m freestyle.
