Schott, Bartlett Named to Middlebury Swimming & Diving Coaching Positions

Middlebury College has announced the hiring of Garland Bartlett as the men’s and women’s swimming & diving assistant coach, while Bradley Schott has been named the programs’ diving coach. Bartlett comes to Middlebury from Trinity, where she served in a similar position for the past two seasons, while Schott spent last winter leading the Iona diving programs.

“Having known Garland Bartlett for seven years, she is a perfect fit for the Middlebury swimming and diving program as our assistant coach,” said head coach Bob Rueppel. “I am looking forward to the opportunity of utilizing her skill set and working alongside her.”

“I am both excited and grateful for the opportunity to continue my coaching career at Middlebury, an institution that values both academic and athletic excellence,” said Bartlett. “I was fortunate to have Bob as my swimming coach when I was an undergraduate at Franklin & Marshall, and I am looking forward to coaching with him at Middlebury.”

No stranger to the NESCAC, Bartlett recently finished her second season as an assistant coach for the men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams at Trinity. She arrived at Trinity after a successful collegiate career and a one-year stint as an assistant women’s coach at The College of New Jersey.

Bartlett graduated from Franklin and Marshall in 2012 with a degree in American Studies, and obtained a master’s degree at Trinity in 2015. She was a four-year letterwinner for the Diplomats where she helped her team capture a Centennial Conference title and earned league awards for top-three finishes in the 200, 500 and 1,650-yard freestyle events. Bartlett was named the team’s Most Valuable Player in 2010 and recorded an NCAA B-cut time in the 1,650-yard freestyle.

Over the past four summers, Bartlett has worked as a counselor and coach during the Total Performance Swim Camp at Kenyon College in central Ohio. Prior to Trinity, she was the head swimming coach and swim lesson director at The Farmington Field Club in Farmington, Connecticut.

Schott joins Rueppel as the Panther diving coach. “We are thrilled to welcome Brad to Middlebury,” noted Rueppel. “His successes both on the diving boards as well as on the deck will greatly contribute to the present and future of our diving program. I look forward to working with him.”

“It is truly an honor to be joining head coach Bob Rueppel and the Middlebury swimming and diving programs,” said Schott. “I look forward to integrating my expertise in lines of sight off the board as well as building strong character, values and pride.”

A 2014 graduate of the University of Connecticut, Schott spent last season as an assistant coach at Iona. Before that, he coached at the age-group and senior level in USA Diving with several programs, including Dive Haven located at Yale University and the prestigious USA Diving Inc. High Dive Champions located out of SUNY Purchase. With USA Diving Inc., Schott coached several regional champions and national finalists.

In the summer of 2013, Schott served as the head diving coach and assistant pool director at the Black Rock Yacht Club in Bridgeport, Connecticut.

During his time at the University of Connecticut, Schott was an established diver where he was a Big East Finalist and an NCAA Zone Finalist. Before joining the Huskies, Schott was a two-time High School All-American at Wilton High School (Conn.).

Good news up in Middleburyland. Rueppel is a terrific coach, and I’m pleased that he’s bringing in some trusted assistants — particularly two of such talent. Go Panthers!
