Burnell and Da Cunha Take Gold in 10km Marathon Swimming World Cup

The fifth leg of the FINA/HOSA 10km Marathon Swimming World Cup 2015 took place today in Balatonfured (HUN) with 79 swimmers (58 men and 21 women) taking the departure.

In the men’s race, Jack Burnell of Great Britain emerged victorious in a time of 1h41m41s93. The Brit had also won the fourth leg of the competition in Cozumel (MEX) last month. Greece’s Spyridon Gianniotis touched home 3 seconds later (1h41m44s51) while Simone Ruffini (ITA) finished third (1h41m46s35) as he did in Cozumel.

Brazil’s Ana Marcela Da Cunha dominated the operations in the women’s race, completing the event in 1h50m36s68. Eva Risztov of Hungary took bronze in front of the English Keri Anne Payne who placed third in 1h50m38s87.

Hungary, with the city of Budapest, will be the host of the FINA World Championships in 2017.

The 10km marathon swimming elite will next meet in Sebutal in Portugal on June 27 for the sixth race of this annual competition.
