The Faroe Islands standout, Pal Joensen, made waves in two events today, beginning with the men’s 400m freestyle.  He managed to pull out the win in a time of 3:53.27 and led his teammate Oli Mortensen to a Faroe 1-2 finish, with Mortensen claiming silver in 3:54.65.  Joensen then went on to tackle the 200m breaststroke race and came out on top of the field there, too.  Joensen’s time of 2:14.82 cruised ahead of the field by just about two full seconds and also nabbed Joensen a new Games record in the event.  All told through these Games, Joensen is bringing home 5 individual gold medals to the Faroe Islands, representing the top finisher in the men’s 200m/400m/1500m freestyle events, the men’s 400m IM, as well as today’s 200m breaststroke.

Charlotte Atkinson also made her mark on the last day of competition, snagging two gold medals to add to her 2015 Island Games collection.  Atkinson first attacked the women’s 200m butterfly where she demolished the field in a time of 2:09.37, well over 8 seconds faster than the rest the competitors.  Her time now sits as the Games record in the event, as well as is now ranked within the world’s top ten short course 200m fly performances on the year. Atkinson’s second individual win came in the form of her 100m backstroke race, where she nabbed gold in a time of 57.03.  Atkinson is bringing home an incredible six individual golds, having won the women’s 50m/100m/200m butterfly, 50m/100m freestyle and 200m IM events.
