Mission Viejo city council approves design contract for Nadadores pool renovation

Though there was some concern the process would be delayed, the city council of Mission Viejo, California did move forward with plans for a pool renovation this week, awarding the design contract to the Aquatic Design Group.

Last month, the city council originally approved a $6.2 million renovation of the Mission Viejo Nadadores’ Marguerite Recreation Center aquatics facility. But the team was looking to rally support for this week’s city council meeting, posting concerns on Facebook that the city’s mayor would try to delay the project.

Mayor Cathy Schlicht did indeed express some disagreements with the plan, but still voted to approve the contract, noting that her single vote wouldn’t make a difference with the four other council members on board.

You can watch the city council meeting in the embedded video below. The aquatics complex renovation is item 29 on the agenda, and starts at about 3:41 in the video, running until 3:59. We’ve embedded just that portion.

You can find minutes of the meeting here, both they and the video are courtesy of Mission Viejo Television (MVTV), the local access television station.

The Mission Viejo Nadadores are one of the more well-known clubs in USA Swimming, based in southern California and hosting the annual Greg Louganis Dive Meet and the Fran Crippen Swim Meet of Champions.
