Day Two – Finals

For the second day in a row it was Rockwood Swim Club’s Lauren Votava standing atop the podium after the first event. Votava won the women’s 200 free in 2:02.11, her best by .34 and her first Olympic Trials cut in the event. Second place went to Mizzou’s Kira Zubar, who dropped an impressive 3 seconds but fell just short of the Trials standard of 2:02.39 with her 2:02.75. Not far behind was Lincoln Select’s Felicity Cann in 2:02.91, her best by 1.5.

Mizzou boasted the top four finishers on the men’s side, with Andrew Phillips leading the way in 1:53.45. Nicholas Davis (1:54.17), Mitchell Forde (1:54.72), and Levi Hanks (1:54.97) followed their teammate closely.

Sharlene Brady, also of Mizzou, dropped an impressive 4.2 seconds in the 400 IM to lower her already-OT-qualified time to 4:50.76. Teammate Ellen Suek was runner-up with 4:58.15, a PB by 1.5 seconds.

Mackenzie Darragh of Mizzou edged Phillipp Willett of Rockwood Swim Club for the men’s 400 IM title, 4:29.69 to 4:30.36. Willett, who is having a strong meet so far, dropped nearly 7 seconds between prelims and finals.

Taylor Pike of Razorback Aquatic Club Aquahawgs punched her ticket to 2016 Olympic Trials with a .83-second drop in the 100 fly. Pike finished second to Danielle Barbiea of Mizzou, 1:00.64 to 1:00.87, but it was more than 3/10 under the Trials cut.

In the men’s race, Andrew Sansoucie of Mizzou went a lifetime best by 8/10 and earned his first Olympic Trials cut in the 100 fly with 53.61. Splash Club’s Kyle Ward improved his time by 7/10 to finish second with 55.42, just ahead of Ethan Shih of Sarpy County Swim Club, who knocked 1.6 seconds off his previous PB to wind up with 55.60.
