Day 1 of the 2015 FINA World Championships Pick ‘Em Contest (presented by TYR) yielded some high scores thanks to a lot of races sticking pretty close to expectations.
In fact, only in one case did a non-top-8-seed finish in the top four places, netting the selectors 3 bonus points – and that was when the Brazilian men took 4th in the 400 free relay.
The women’s 400 free (Katie Ledecky) and women’s 400 free relay (Australia) were both won by the top seeds, and while the men’s 400 free (Sun Yang) was won by the #2 seed, but our readers weren’t fooled. Sun is, afterall, the defending World Champion and Olympic Champion in the event. In total, of 449 entries, 1367 points were scored by Sun’s win, meaning 309 (68%) of the contestants still chose him.
Of course, that pales in comparison to Ledecky…who was such a sure-thing that every single completed entry chose her to win.
Our day 1 contest went to squiggles255 and swimwild13, who both picked all four first place winners correctly. They win a prize package including the new TYR Blackhawk goggles and a swim cap.
Editor’s Note: swimwild13 technically won the second tie-breaker, but because of an editorial error, we will award a prize package to both.
