Plenty of national records fell in the heats of the women’s 50m breaststroke including five from swimmers who will represent their countries in tonight’s semifinals.
UKRAINIAN NATIONAL RECORD
Mariia Liver broke her own Ukrainian national record of 30.68 in the heats with a 30.60. That time ranks her sixth heading into semifinals.
BELGIAN NATIONAL RECOD
Fanny Lecluyse dropped a 30.75 in her 50m breaststroke heat in order to better the former national record of 31.25 (which she set in March) and take the seventh seed overall behind Liver.
FINNISH NATIONAL RECORD
Jenna Laukkanen was very swift this morning in order to down the Finnish mark in the sprint breaststroke race, clocking in at 30.79 in order to finish eighth overall.
ITALIAN NATIONAL RECORD
Martina Carraro of Italy bettered her 50m breaststroke Italian record by a small margin, improving the mark to a 30.83.
That time takes just 0.06 seconds off Carraro’s previous Italian record of 30.89. Carraro entered the meet with a 30.89 seed time as the sixth fastest seed overall.
ICELANDIC NATIONAL RECORD
Hrafnhildur Lutherdottir of Iceland has been on fire at these World Championships, and continued her dominant way with another Icelandic national record.
This morning Luthersdottir cracked 31-seconds in order to put ip a 30.90 to tie for the 12th fastest time this morning.
POLISH NATIONAL RECORD
Anna Sztandera of Poland also bettered her respective national mark, rocking a 31.34 at the touch.
Sztandera was just 0.12 seconds away from making tonight’s semifinals, finishing 18th in the heats.
ISRAELI NATIONAL RECORD
Amit Ivry was also short of making tonight’s semifinals, but reached a new Israeli national record of 31.39 in the event.
Ivry was 20th overall.
