This year, USA Swimming is selecting their Junior World Championships team strictly on the basis of this weekend’s senior National Championship meet.
To be eligible, male team members must have been born in the years 1997, 1998, 1999, or 2000, and female swimmers must have been born in the years 1998, 1999, 2000, or 2001. In more general terms, at year’s end, males must be aged 15-18 and females aged 14-17.
Beyond that, USA Swimming will send swimmers to the meet based on the following criteria:
- They must have finished in the top 6 in Olympic events, or top 8 in the 100 and 200 freestyle;
and then chosen as:
- First priority goes to the winner of each Olympic event, and the top four eligible finishers in the 100 and 200 freestyle (given the above criteria); followed by
- The second-fastest swimmer in every event aside from the 100 and 200 freestyle
With up to 26 spots available on the boys’ team and 26 spots available on the girls’ team, there should be available space for all swimmers who meet the above criteria in either the first or second position.
USA Swimming says that they will continue to update the list as more swimmers both qualify and accept positions on the roster.
