For the 2015-16 season, the Texas A&M men will stick to their usual trend of mostly home meets. They will, however, break things up differently this year. They’ll split their home meets up with travel in between. Comparatively, they swam 4 dual meets on the road before ending the regular season with 6 straight home meets in 2014-15. Aside from that, they’ve added some fresh SEC variety to their dual meet schedule.
The Aggie men will be changing things up right off the bat. Last Season, all 3 of their SEC dual meets were at home in College Station, Texas. They’ll begin 2015-16 with a dual meet against Kentucky in Lexington on Oct. 14.
The first home meet will take place on Oct. 30th against Incarnate Word. They’ll then travel all the way to South Florida to race Indian River on Nov. 5 and FAU on Nov. 7.
The team will get ready for some fast swimming in the annual Art Adamson Invitational, held at home in College Station on Nov. 19-21. This has historically been as their mid-season focus, where many swimmers produce their season bests in attempts to qualify for NCAAs before the post season. Interestingly, the prelims sessions at this meet will be held in long course and finals will be held in short course. This shift will give swimmers a chance at qualifying for the 2016 Olympic Trials at a time of year where many teams have put in at least some measure of rest.
Following the invite, the Aggies will train through December before returning to competition against Missouri State at home on Jan. 7. The next day, they’ll have a home meet against Georgia, the 2nd ranked team in the SEC last season. One of the most interesting showdowns here could be the race between Brock Bonetti and UGA’s Tynan Stewart in the backstrokes. Stewart was 6th at last year’s SECs to Bonetti’s 9th. Both posted 1:42 low, Bonetti breaking a school record in the process.
Following their meet with Georgia, they’ll head to LSU on Jan. 23. In this matchup last year, the Aggies came out on top. They then went on to beat the Tigers at SECs by just 16.5 points. This could be one of their closest and most exciting dual meets of the whole season.
The Aggies will close the regular season with a home meet against SMU on Jan. 29 before heading into the post season for conference and NCAA competition.
On Feb.16-20, the SEC Swimming & Diving Championships will be held at Missouri for the first time in history. Texas A&M will look to improve on their 8th place finish from last year.
Following SECs, they’ll host Speedo Sectionals on Feb. 25-28. The men will then head to Austin, Texas for a last chance qualifier at the American Short Course Championships on Mar. 3-5.
Those who hit the qualifying marks will head to Atlanta, Georgia to close the 2015-16 season at the Men’s Division I NCAA Swimming & Diving Championships. The meet will run from Mar. 24-26. Last season, they landed in 38th place at NCAAs.
