A trio of Pirate swimmers: Fran Krznaric, Vendela Norrman and Victor Santos made a splash this summer in both national and international competitions.
Norrman, a sophomore from Sweden, started her summer off at the 2015 Swedish Championships in early July. She qualified in the A final in both the 100 and 200-yard breaststroke and placed second in the junior final in the 200 breaststroke and fourth in the Open A Final with a personal best LCM time of 2:32.83.
Krznaric also competed in his native homeland of Croatia over summer was crowned national champion in the 50-yard backstroke as well as the 200-yard IM, where he posted the fastest time (2:06.29 LCM) in the event by a Croatian this year. He also added a pair of relay titles to his belt in the 4×100 freestyle and medley relays and captured the silver medal in the 100-yard backstroke.
Santos represented his home country of Brazil at the 2015 Junior World Championships in Singapore earlier this month. Santos’ 4×100 freestyle relay team nearly claimed the bronze medal, but missed the medal stand by less than a half of a second for a respectful fourth-place finish. He also competed in the 50-yard butterfly and placed 27th.
“As a staff we are very proud of these athletes for what they accomplished worldwide this summer” ECU Head Swimming & Diving Coach Rick Kobe said. “We are excited to see what these swimmers along with the rest of our team will accomplish this season.”
