Two years after announcing her retirement from the sport, Australian swimming great Libby Trickett (formerly Libby Lenton) has given birth to her first child.
Poppy Frances Trickett was born on August 31st at 9:23 pm weighing 6.5 pounds and measuring 20 inches.
“Luke and I are so thrilled to announce that our little girl, Poppy Frances Trickett arrived into the world (a couple of weeks early!) on the 31st of August at 9.23pm!” Trickett posted on Instagram yesterday, “She weighed 2.98kg and was 51cm long. We can’t believe how lucky and blessed we are to have this gorgeous little being in our lives! We are so in love and beyond happy!”
Trickett swam for the Aussies in three Olympics, taking four gold, one silver, and two bronze medals. She also was crowned world champion in eight long course and seven short course World Championships.
She currently holds the 100m freestyle short course record, and she is a former world record holder in the long course 50m and 100m freestyle and the short course 200m freestyle and 100m butterfly.
A wrist injury in 2013 forced her into retirement at the age of 28.
Trickett’s husband, Luke Trickett, was also a national-level swimmer for Australia.
