Catch A Clip Of the 2015 Commonwealth Youth Games Opening Ceremonies

The 2015 Commonwealth Youth Games kicked off yesterday in Samoa, with a theatrical celebration of culture and sport at the Games’ Opening Ceremonies.  This is the 5th edition of the Games.  Over 1,000 athletes and officials attended the ceremony, which introduced the audience to Pacific island culture, complete with fire dancers and light displays.

66 Commonwealth countries are participating in this year’s event, with 107 gold medals at stake over the 5 days of competition.  The sports and schedules can be found here.

Of the Games, Samoan Prime Minister and Chair of the Organizing Committee, Tuilaepa Aiono Sailele Malielegaoi said, “Samoa is proud to once again lead the Pacific in a regional first as we host the Commonwealth Youth Games and welcome more than 1,000 athletes and officials from across the globe. We have been preparing for these Games since we secured hosting rights.  We have great facilities in place and look forward to seeing some strong performances from these young champions of tomorrow.
