Machine Backstroker Chloe Hicks Verbally Commits To Virginia Tech

Virginia Tech has dipped into the high school class of 2016 recruiting market, pulling a verbal commitment from Machine Aquatics backstroker Chloe Hicks.

Hicks announced her commitment via Twitter Sunday:

Hicks looks like a solid multi-distance backstroker at the college level, with an ACC-level scoring time in the 200 back already and a near-scoring time in the 100-yard distance.

Hicks’ Top Times

  • 100 back: 55.98
  • 200 back: 2:00.00
  • 100 free: 51.28
  • 50 free: 23.93

Hicks will join an area of relative success for the H2Okies, who have done well training backstrokers the past several years. Klaudia Nazieblo was one of the team’s best swimmers last year as a sophomore, making ACC A finals in both backstrokes, and junior Holly Harper also made the championship heat of the 100 back.

Harper will be graduating as Hicks is coming through the door in Blacksburgh, and Hicks will overlap one season with Nazieblo, who should be an ideal training partner for a young backstroker.

Hicks heads to Virginia Tech out of Centreville, Virginia, where she swims for Machine Aquatics and Westfield High School. In addition to her backstroke prowess, she’s made the A final of the Virginia High School 6A State Meet in both the 50 and 100 frees, which could make her an option on multiple relays for Virginia Tech down the road.

The H2Okies are coming off a solid third-place finish at ACCs, one of the nation’s most crowded conferences on the women’s side.
