YMCA of Central Florida Hires Pfau As Director of Competitive Swimming

The YMCA of Central Florida is excited to announce the hiring of Alan Pfau as Director of Competitive Swimming. Alan comes from the esteemed SwimMAC Carolina program in Charlotte, NC where he was Senior Division Director for the number one club team in the USA for the last 5 years. While at SwimMAC, Alan worked under the legendary, and recently appointed 2016 Women’s Olympic Head Coach, David Marsh.

Rowdy Gaines, Vice-President of Aquatics said “We are incredibly excited to add Alan to our staff here at YCF. He brings a tremendous amount of experience and I know he will be an outstanding asset as we strive to have a formidable senior program.”

Mike Brady, the Director of Competitive Aquatics for YCF indicated “I’ve known Alan a long time and he’s one of the best in his field. He understands the dynamics of team building for a large program, is well versed working within a YMCA and most importantly, knows how to get the most out of each athlete.”

David Marsh adds “Alan has been a key leader and coach for the SwimMAC organization for the last 7 years. Much of the success we have enjoyed during his tenure is due directly to his coaching knowledge and skill, along with his passion to help young people through the sport of swimming to develop into the best possible version of themselves. I look forward to continue to collaborate with Alan, Mike and Rowdy in the future.”

Pfau was born and raised in Winston-Salem, North Carolina and brings a vast amount of Y background to Orlando. He began coaching with the Winston-Salem YMCA, (currently known as TYDE Swim Team), until taking a head age group coaching position with the Capital YMCA Swim Team in Raleigh, (now the YMCA of the Triangle Area, or YOTA). Pfau then moved into collegiate coaching with an assistant position at Western Kentucky University, where he had the opportunity to work with Coach Marsh at Auburn’s summer swim camps. Pfau followed his tenure at WKU by joining the SwimMAC coaching staff in May 2007 and also served as the Technical Planning Chair for North Carolina Swimming and was on the North Carolina Swimming Board of Directors.

Alan has also served as an Assistant Coach for USA Swimming’s National Select Camp and was voted North Carolina Swimming Age-Group Coach of the Year.

“I am looking forward to the opportunity of working with such a great organization as the YMCA of Central Florida and contribute to its mission,” said Pfau.

Alan’s coaching duties will primarily be at the YMCA Aquatic Center but he will be a huge influence across the entire association program.
