The University of Florida swimmer continued to dominate on the second day of the 2015 All-Florida Invite. Florida State started off the session with a win in the women’s 200 medley relay, but the Gators took control after that.
Hannah Burns and Mark Szaranek earned an NCAA “B” time standards in the women’s and men’s 400 IM. Burns posted a 4:19.03 while Szaranek won with a 3:51.11.
Florida’s star sprinters, Natalie Hinds and Caeleb Dressel, won the 100 butterflies’. Hinds was the only swimmer under 54 seconds with a 53.85 and Dressel posted a final time of 47.24.
Both Dressel and Hinds earned first and second place finishes on the second day of the meet. Hinds finished second in the 100 backstroke with a 54.91 (behind teammate Ashlee Linn in 54.65), and Dressel earned a second place finish individually in the 100 breaststroke as part of a four-swim session for the sophomore.
The men’s 100 breaststroke was the most exciting race of the session. Anton Lobanov of Nova Southeastern, a Russian who is the defending NCAA Division II Champion in the 100 and 200 breaststrokes, won the event with a 55.30, just beating out Dressel who finished second at 55.34, earning an NCAA B cut as well. Dressel had a better second 50 than his counterpart did, and could improve his time as he gets more experience racing this event – he’s the Gators’ best breaststroke option this season.
The only non-Florida Gator to win an individual event on the women’s side was Florida Gulf Coast’s Katie Armitage. She won the women’s 100 breaststroke by a second-and-a-half in 1:02.37, ahead of Florida State’s Natalie Pierce (1:03.86). Much like in prelims, Florida struggled in that event with just one swimmer in the A-Final – that being Paige Scheringer. The team’s two fastest 100 breaststrokers haven’t raced yet at this meet.
Other event winners include:
- Women’s 200 Free – Taylor Katz – 1:50.16
- Men’s 200 Free – Pawel Werner – 1:37.45
- Men’s 100 Back – Jack Blyzinskyj – 47.23
- Men’s 200 medley relay – Florida – 1:28.16 (24.4 breaststroke split from Dressel)
- Women’s 800 free relay – Florida – 7:25.28
- Men’s 800 free relay – Florida – 6:37.20 (1:38.3 split from Werner, 1:39.0 leadoff from Dressel)

The link that is supposed to be the 2nd day results sends me to the Friday finals program.
I know this is training meet, but this is rubbish.
Dressel should only swim 50 and 100 free!
Listen to me, Dressel cannot win against Manaudou if he does not focus in 50/100 free. Manadou will crush him in Rio…. CRUSH!
As if Manadou only swims the 50 and 100 free. Oh wait, he never swims the 100 free in the big meets. And he does compete routinely in the other strokes — doesn’t seem to hurt his 50 free.
Geez. Let the kid have some fun in the midst of training. Racing is racing, and muscle confusion during progressive overload is a key to power gains.
Hoho Hihi — I think you forgot to mention that he should quit college swimming, stop swimming short course yards, and focus on long course meters. Amiright?
Hoho Hihi, I don’t like your name. Too close to mine. 😆
Swimdoc, Manaudou has already swum the 100 free in a few big meets. At last SCM world championships and at last LCM European championships (47.98).
Yes, Bobo, but I was talking about 100 LCM free at a Worlds or Olympics, which the poster referenced with his Rio comment. And, as you’ve often pointed out, Manaudou often drops the finals of the 100 LCM free after swimming it in prelims. He’s yet to compete in one in the finals on the biggest stages.
He’s not going to crush anyone in the 100 LCM free in Rio. He won’t even make the French team for that individual event. The 50 free is a different story.
Of course!
swimming yards is a waste of time! Do Manaudou, Magnussen, Mcevoy, Santana swim in yards?
No!
He should focus on swimming metres and 50/100 free only. He may also want to think about training with the greatest coach in the world, Philippe Lucas.
Ashlee Linn is a Florida Gator, and she did win the 100 backstroke. I think you mean Katie Armitage of FGCU, who won the 100 breaststroke.
