Penn St. Will Be Tested Early in Tri-Meet with UVA, Mich. (Schedule)

Penn State has announced their schedule for the 2015-16 season, and they’ll start their season at the site of the 2016 NCAA Championships. On Oct. 2, they travel to Atlanta for a tri-meet against Georgia Tech and Liberty. This will give the team an early look at the pool they’ll be swimming in at the biggest event of the season.

The next day, they face Emory in a dual meet on Oct. 3.Following that meet, they’ll open the home dual meet season against Virginia Tech on Oct. 16.

They then take on 2 more tri-meets, the first of which will be on the road at Michigan Oct. 31 and Nov. 1. This will be their first look at a Big Ten foe, but they’ll be joined by the University of Virginia as well. This is an exciting duel for the Penn State women, who picked up a win last season over the UVA team that went on to finish 5th at NCAAs. The men will be meeting the defending Big Ten champions, and it will be their only head to head match with another Big Ten team.

They’ll swim another tri-meet against Princeton and UConn at home on Nov. 13-14 before preparing for their mid-season focus meet. The team will be split, as some swimmers will travel to Princeton for the Big Al Invitational, and the others will race at the UGA Fall Invitational. Both meets take place Dec. 4-6.

Penn State will train through the rest of December before returning to competition in New Haven on Jan. 15-16 for a tri-meet against Yale and the Rutgers women. This will give the women’s team one more look at a Big Ten team during the regular season. The men will try to avenge a narrow 2015 loss to Yale. Last season, they fell short by just 9 points.

They’ll wrap up the regular season with an away meet against Navy on Jan. 23 and a home meet against Villanova on Feb. 6. Then they head into the post-season, starting with the 2016 Big Ten Championships. The women’s meet will take place in Ann Arbor on Feb. 18-20. The men’s meet will be held the following weekend, Feb. 25-27, in West Lafayette. Last season, the men and women both swam to a 7th place finish. Both teams will get a chance to swim long course, with time trials being held the day after the close of the competition.

They’ll head to a last chance meet for those who haven’t yet qualified for the NCAA Championships, but details for that meet haven’t been set. Then the women’s qualifiers will compete on the national stage on Mar. 17-19. The men will race at NCAAs on Mar. 24-26. Last season, they were 20th and 24th respectively.
