Carroll High School senior Courtney Kresl, from Fort Wayne, Indiana, announced on Instagram that she has elected to remain in-state and will swim for the Purdue Boilermakers beginning next fall. Kresl placed seventh in the 50 free at the 2015 Indiana High School Girls Swimming and Diving Championships last February; she was also 11th in the 100 free and contributed to Carroll’s 200 medley and 200 free relays.

Kresl swims year-round with Northwest Aquatic Club Swimming, also in Fort Wayne. Her top times over the last two seasons have included:

  SCY LCM
50 free 23.36 26.65
100 free 51.49 59.00
50 back 27.58 31.95
100 back 58.31 1:08.80
50 fly 29.56
100 fly 57.30 1:05.17

The B1G conference has some of the nation’s top sprinters, and it took a 23.02/50.17 to make the “C” finals at 2015 conference championships. Purdue is coming off a fifth-place finish at that meet, approximately equidistant between fourth-place Wisconsin and sixth-place Ohio State.

The Boilermakers do an excellent job retaining top Indiana in-state talent, of which there is quite a lot. This past recruiting year was especially fruitful, and the freshman class this year includes such homegrown talent as Alex Clarke, Breanna Robinson, Taite Kitchel, Emily Meckstroth, Danielle Auckley, Jackie Smailis, and Cady Farlow – all of whom were individual finalists at last year’s high school state meet. Kresl will add to that tradition. As she expressed on her Instagram account:

“I am unbelievably blessed and excited to announce my verbal commitment to swim at Purdue University! Thank you to everyone who has been nothing but positive with me in this whole experience. Sorry mom and dad but BOILER UP!”

Good for her, but keep in mind Purdue football at this time is not only the worst power conference team, they may be the worst Div I football team in the entire country. Hope she’s not a football fan.

You must be very proud. Best of luck to Courtney as she moves on to her college years.
