Last June, the University of Arizona announced that graduating Wildcat Margo Geer had been selected as the Pac-12 Conference Woman of the Year for the 2014-15 academic year.  And now, from the 30 nominations submitted by each collegiate division, the NCAA has narrowed the field of award candidates down to 9, including Geer.

The award is presented annually to graduating student-athletes who have distinguished themselves throughout their collegiate careers in the areas of academic achievement, athletics excellence, community service and leadership.

A business management major with a 3.66 grade point average, Geer graduated cum laude and was twice named CSCAA Scholar All-American.  The two-time Academic All-Pac-12 swimmer also served on the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee, performed community service at the Boys and Girls Club, YMCA and Special Olympics, among several other organizations.

Geer attributes her student-athlete success to her upbringing, crediting her parents with ensuring that “growing up, school was always at the forefront of everything I did.  I had a good foundation coming into college and was able to manage my priorities.”  Seeing the fruits of her labor, Geer says that “putting in the hard work, being able to commit yourself to learning the [academic] material and being relentless allow you to reach your goals.”

The 2015 NCAA Woman of the Year Award will be announced October 18th during a ceremony in Indianapolis, Indiana.
