William & Mary Picks Up Two Commits from Norah Hunt and Lauren Freeman

The College of William & Mary has picked up two verbal commits for their class of 2020, one from Shenandoah Marlins Swim Club’s Norah Hunt and the other from NCAP’s Lauren Freeman.

Hunt is a distance-oriented freestyler who gets better the longer she’s in the pool. Below is a list of her top times:

  • 200 free – 1:53.56
  • 500 free – 4:56.42
  • 1000 free – 10:06.26
  • 1650 free – 17:05.71
  • 200 fly – 2:07.99

Hunt is a bit off of qualifying for finals in the CAA championships in the 200 free and 200 fly, but her 500 free best would have put her in last year’s B final and her 1650 best would’ve slated her at a 12th place finish last year.

She would also rank third of all of William & Mary’s 500 and 1650 freestylers last season. Hunt will bulk up the Tribe’s distance ranks, and she may find herself helping out on the 800 free relay if she can chop off another couple seconds in that race.

Freeman, who swims under coach Pete Morgan at Nation’s Capital, is a fast-improving breaststroker with a Winter Jr National cut in the 200 breast. Her top times are below:

2012-13 2013-14 2014-15
50 breast  –  –  30.35
100 breast  1:15.57  1:08.02  1:04.58
200 breast  2:40.63  2:29.98  2:19.53

Freeman’s meteoric rise from the 2013-14 season to last season is remarkable, as she took almost 3.5 seconds off of her 100 breast time and over ten in the 200. Her times from the 2012-13 season really put her improvement curve in perspective.

Freeman’s bests would’ve put her at 5th on the Tribe’s 100 breast top times last season and 4th in the 200; that being said, she really isn’t far from W&M’s first-ranked times in both events. Annie Valls had the fastest 100 breast (1:03.10) while Allie Christy led the Tribe in the 200 (2:15.79) in 2015.

Looking at last year’s CAA Champs, Freeman would’ve been somewhere in the middle of the B final of both breaststrokes, and an A final appearance wouldn’t be surprising in her first season with the Tribe.
