Nebraska Huskers Prep for Opener Against Arkansas Razorbacks

The Nebraska swimming and diving team will open the 2015-16 regular season with a dual meet against the Arkansas Razorbacks, Saturday, Oct. 3, at 11 a.m., at the Devaney Natatorium.

 

Nebraska is 6-6 all-time against Arkansas.  The teams met last season for a dual meet in Lincoln. Despite victories from Alexandra Bilunas and Anna Filipcic, Nebraska fell to Arkansas, 190-106. Returning swimmers Jordan Ehly, Katt Sickle and Bria Deveaux all earned second-place finishes for the Huskers against the Razorbacks.

Saturday’s meet will also be the first regular season competition for Arkansas, following their intrasquad dual held on Sept. 23. The Razorbacks will be led by seniors Anna Mayfield, Maddie Monroe, Nina Drolc and Rachel Stoehr, all of which qualified for the 2015 NCAA Championships.

Saturday will be Youth Day at the Devaney Natatorium as local swimming and diving teams and clubs are invited to attend the meet.  The Nebraska swimming and diving team will be signing autographs following the meet and 150 BTN foam fingers will be given away, as well.

Following Saturday’s meet, the Huskers will be back in action Friday, Oct. 9, against Iowa State. The Huskers will take on the Cyclones at 5 p.m. at the Devaney Natatorium.

Last Time Out: Cream Race Past Scarlet in Intrasquad Opener

Taryn Collura, Erin Oeltjen and Jordan Ehly each notched two victories Friday afternoon, leading the Cream to a 144.5-105.5 triumph in the annual Scarlet v. Cream Intrasquad Meet at the Devaney Natatorium.  Overall, the Cream won 11 of 16 events en route to a victory that gave the Cream a seven to five all-time series lead.

The Cream entered Friday’s competition with a 20-12 lead after capturing victories in a laser tag challenge and a minute to win it competition that took place prior to Friday afternoon’s meet.

The team of Morgan McCafferty, Ehly, Oeltjen and Collura helped get the Cream squad off to a strong start by capturing first-place in the 200-yard medley relay. In the 400-yard freestyle relay, the team of Collura, Lindsay Helferich, Kaylyn Flatt and Oeltjen helped the Cream secure another victory.

Collura, Oeltjen, and Ehly each captured victories in two events for the Cream.  Collura tallied victories in both the 50- and 100-yard freestyles.  Oeltjen earned the top spot in both the 100-yard butterfly and the one-meter swimmer diving competition.  Ehly captured victories in the 200-yard individual medley and the 100-yard breaststroke.

Katt Sickle led the Scarlet team capturing victories in both the 200- and 500-yard freestyles. Three other Huskers captured victories for the Scarlet squad. Jacqueline Juffer notched a win in the 100-yard backstroke, Anna Filipcic claimed the crown for the one-meter dive and Kara Cottrell won the diver’s 50-yard freestyle event.
