Big Ten finalist Abby Jagdfeld will be switching allegiances from the Purdue Boilermakers to the Wisconsin Badgers for her sophomore season onwards.
Jagdfeld, who competed for Purdue at Big Tens last season, appears on the Wisconsin roster as a sophomore. Jagdfeld will be training with the Badgers this year, but she will not be eligible to compete. Next year she will be eligible to compete as a redshirt sophomore. She currently has three years of eligibility remaining.
It’s a homecoming of sorts for Jagdfeld, who was a Wisconsin High School state champ and state record-holder before joining Purdue for her rookie NCAA campaign.
Jagdfeld was arguably Purdue’s top freestyler last season, anchoring the team’s 400 medley relay and swimming on the 400 and 800 free relays. She also scored individually in two events, and made the C final in a third; under the new scoring rules taking effect this year, Jagdfeld would have scored in that race as well.
She hit lifetime-bests in both the 200 free and 500 free as a Boilermaker, but was off her best in the 100 free.

Wisconsin’s sprint group looks much different this season after the graduation of perennial All-American Ivy Martin. But the Badgers still have a solid freestyle group, and have done extremely well with transfers lately, including former Florida Gator Danielle Valley and former NCAA record-holder (and Pac-12 champ for Cal) Cierra Runge, who will start competing for Wisconsin in the fall of 2016.
Wisconsin was fourth at last year’s Big Ten Championships, one spot ahead of Purdue.
