Official Website Of Rome 2024 Bid Launched

The Italian city of Rome has launched the official website for its 2024 Summer Olympic Games bid. Although it is rather high-level and conceptual at this point, visitors to the site can grasp the overall feel and vision of the bid, complete with a less-than-2-minute video showcasing the city’s incredible architecture and historic landmarks.

The famous Eleanor Roosevelt quote “The future belongs to those who believe in the beauty of their dreams” is at the forefront of the homepage, as well as the Mattie J.T. Stepanek saying, “Even though the future seems far away, it is actually beginning right now”.  Both phrases point to the fact that, although the actual 2024 Olympics are 9 years away, the host city will be announced by the International Olympic Committee in 2017, less than 2 years from now.

The primary components of Rome’s 2024 bid quest are displayed as ‘Vision’, ‘Beauty’ and ‘Culture’.

  • Vision – The bid aims to “revive the values of brotherhood and friendship between nations, cementing them in the global embrace that only a sport can create”.  Rome 2024 dreams of giving its inhabitants a “better city, and a better qualify of life, which only the burst of speed of such an important event can help bring about”
  • Beauty – The 2700 year-old city offers a virtually unparalleled backdrop for the giant celebration of sport.  According to Rome 2024, “no other city in the world can compete with the magnificence and beauty of it all”
  • Culture – Highlighting its vast collection of some of the world’s most famous works of art and treasured architectural feats, there is no denying the allure of having the world’s best athletes compete in the same city in which Michelangelo and Botticelli once step foot

Rome originally bid for the 2004 Summer Olympic Games, which were ultimately awarded to Athens, Greece.  The city once again attempted a bid for the 2020 Games, but ended up withdrawing due to lack of government support.

A beautifully done video. A Rome Olympics would be epic.
