Victoria Butler shined in the first half of the Western New York Invitational with a first-place finish in the 200-yard IM (2:11.66) and a third-place finish of 2:11.10 in the 200-yard butterfly. Butler was also the third leg of the 200-yard medley relay team that placed first with a time of 1:51.37.

Missouri State men’s swimmer Uvis Kalnins got off to an impressive 2015-16 senior campaign by winning the 200 individual medley at the Show-Me Showdown Friday, Oct. 2. Kalnins took the 200 IM in a time of 1:49.16, only .07 seconds away from an NCAA ‘B’ standard in just the Bears’ first meet of the season. He also finished runner-up in both an individual and relay event. Kalnins took second in the 100 freestyle (45.15) among 11 universities worth of swimmers, along with serving as the first leg in the Bears’ second-place 400 free relay squad that finished in a time of 3:05.52. Kalnins helped lead Missouri State’s 200 medley relay team as well, serving as the anchor leg. In both relay positions, Kalnins finished with the second-best time among all swimmers at the Showdown.

In his opening meet of senior year, Till Pallmann swam in three winning relays against Evansville, helping the Salukis advance to a 192-114 win over the Purple Aces. In his first relay of the meet, Pallmann swam a 48.96 100-yard backstroke to anchor the 3×100-yard backstroke relay, just narrowly missing an NCAA B-Cut qualifying time by less than half a second. Pallmann’s success continued throughout the day in the freestyle relays, swimming a 46.83 split in the 400-yard freestyle relay and a 1:14.15 as the anchor of the 500-yard freestyle ladder relay. Pallmann finished the meet with the most relay wins for the Salukis.

Itai De La Vega, Buffalo
Sophomore / Zichroon Yakov, Israel

1. 100 Breaststroke / 55.29
3. 200 Medley Relay / 1:31.72

First-place finish in the 100-yard breaststroke. His time of 55.29 earned Buffalo 16 points and is less than a minute slower than his school-record time of 54.20 accomplished last season. In the 200-yard medley relay Buffalo earned 24 points with their third-place finish. Hudson Carroll, De La Vega, Mason Miller and Antonio Lanzi swam the event in a time of 1:31.72, which was only 1.84 seconds behind the second-place relay team from South Carolina.
