Mississippi State Champ Stetson Lamb Commits to Auburn

Stetson Lamb of the Memphis Tiger Swim Club has verbally committed to the Auburn Tigers, who are banking on him continuing his meteoric improvements of his junior season.

“I chose Auburn University because it felt like home and it offers everything I want,” Stetson said specifically of the team. “They made me feel like I was already part of the team, and I didn’t want to leave. The team at Auburn is like no other I have ever seen, they really are a family. I am looking forward to working with the awesome coaching staff…I am honored to be able to become a part of this family.”

He was a relative latecomer to competitive swimming, joining the Memphis Tiger Swim Club at age 14. He lives just across the state line in Hernando, Mississippi (only about 30 minutes from downtown), and last season, as a junior, he was the Mississippi High School State Champion in the 100 breaststroke and broke the state record in the process.

Time progression in yards:

freshman sophomore junior
50 free 23.61 22.06 21.78
100 free 58.57 47.71 46.82
200 free 1:57.36 1:43.90 1:39.82
100 breast 1:02.16 58.55 57.52
200 breast 2:21.04 2:11.38 2:04.52

Specifically during his junior year, Lamb showed a lot of improvement over the 200 free and 200 breaststroke. As a late-comer to competitive swimming, it’s natural that the longer races would show bigger jumps as he spends more time in the water, and Lamb may be finding his niche .

Besides his swimming goals, Lamb said that going to Auburn will help him achieve his out-of-the-pool goals of becoming a pilot.

“My goals out of the pool are to become a pilot,” Lamb says. “I am presently pursuing my private pilot license. I have about 36 hours of flying time. I have wanted to fly ever since I can remember. I am so excited about being able to get a degree in Aviation at Auburn.”

“I feel at Auburn I can excel in the pool and in my career path. “
