Morgan Lakes of the Swimchester Sailfish Swim Club in Winchester, KY, will join the University of Kentucky Wildcats next fall. She was a two-time finalist at the 2014-15 Kentucky State Championships, placing eighth in both the 200-yard IM (2:07.21) and the 200-yard freestyle (1:53.98). Lakes says, “I owe my success in the pool to my club and high school coaches of 10 years, Rick and Kim Babuka. I appreciate their dedication and enthusiasm for the sport of swimming which has prepared me to compete at the next level.”

Lakes will graduate from the Madison Central High School in Richmond, KY, in the spring. Upon her arrival at the University of Kentucky, she plans to major in Biology with hopes to pursue a career in the medical field.

“I chose the University of Kentucky because the coaching staff and team welcomed me into their family from the very beginning. Head coach, Lars Jorgensen and his staff have started a tradition of excellence that I believe will take me and the program to the next level. Being from Central Kentucky, I have always held the University of Kentucky in the highest regard both academically and athletically. I feel it is an honor and privilege to swim for and be a part of the Big Blue Nation. Go CATS!” -Lakes

Her best times in yards are:

  • 100 free: 53.92
  • 200 free: 1:52.62
  • 50 back: 29.51
  • 200 IM: 2:07.21
