A former Pennsylvania high school diving coach has been sentenced to up to 7 years in a state prison for possessing child pornography and indecent assault of a child.
(Update: SwimSwam has learned Fatta is a diving coach specifically, and not a swimming & diving coach as previously reported.)
Patrick Fatta, who coached two different Pennsylvania high school swimming & diving teams, was given the sentence today. His sentence is officially between two years, nine months and seven years, with five years of probation afterwards. He will have to register as a sexual offender for the rest of his life, per ABC27.com.
A police search of Fatta’s computer turned up images and videos of child pornography in 2014. He was subsequently fired form his jobs at Hempfield and Manheim Township High Schools as well as a youth diving program at West Chester University.
Then last spring, police found out that Fatta had been sexually involved with a girl. Over the summer, Fatta admitted to both viewing the child pornography and sexually assaulting a girl in his home from 2009 to 2013.
In our report from July, we noted that Fatta admitted he had been viewing child pornography for a number of years, and admitted to police that he had a problem.
The 43-year-old Fatta will now spend a significant amount of time in prison due to those issues.
